I moved to Washington, DC, in 2012 after living overseas for nine years. I had experienced the city in fragments as I traveled here frequently for work. I love how it has the feel of a large city, but it is still small enough to navigate. I love being a tourist in my own city, sometimes even going to the museums during lunch. Washington, DC, also has an exploding culinary scene. There’s always an amazing restaurant to explore.

Columbia, America's Goddess

In researching for our first-ever United States tour, Esoteric America, I discovered a forgotten fact: America has its own goddess. The name Columbia was originally used to refer to the colonies prior to the American Revolution. She was based on the explorer Columbus's name and the principals of liberty, beauty, justice, and, well ... the excellent qualities you would want a goddess to embody.

Houston, No Problem Here!

Last week was the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 13

I can honestly say that last Thursday was one of the coolest nights of my life! (Note: My geekier side may be revealed in this post.)

Every year John Glenn gives a free lecture at the Air & Space Museum and this year it coincided with the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 13. The crew launched into space on April 13, 1970, and thanks to Ron Howard and Tom Hanks, we all know what happened next. They landed safely back on Earth on April 17th.

On April 17th and 18th, the First Lady opened up the White Gardens for tours

Pat Nixon was the first to open up the White House gardens for tours every spring. And every First Lady since has followed suit, including Michelle Obama, who invited anyone who wanted to get up early to wait in line for free tickets, to come this weekend and see the grounds.
