Since Pipa opened in 2008, it's been a favorite.

One of my favourite restos in Halifax at the moment is Pipa on Argyle St. Actually, since Pipa opened in 2008, it’s been a favourite. It’s a husband-and-wife-run resto that specializes in Brazilian and Portuguese food. One of the things that I find appealing about this spot is the fact that most of the dishes are unfamiliar, and each one is a new adventure! Continue reading

They have all the good stuff: loads of cheddar and mozza cheese, red and green peppers, tomatoes, red onions, jalapenos and the addition of sweet pineapple if your palate so desires.

They have all the good stuff: loads of cheddar and mozza cheese, red and green peppers, tomatoes, red onions, jalapenos and the addition of sweet pineapple if your palate so desires.

A couple weeks ago in late June, I filmed a commercial for Nova Scotia Tourism as part of the ‘My Nova Scotia’ campaign. On June 17th, I stood on the corner of Argyle Street across from Durty Nelly’s, in the same position for three hours…on two-foot-high apple crates. Yup, that’s 180 minutes without moving my lower body – which by the end was wrapped in a tarp to keep the wind off of my tender tootsies. Continue reading

Mouthwatering Meal at CUT Steakhouse

Mouthwatering Meal at CUT Steakhouse

Earlier this spring, I did some work for an organization writing about various restaurants and food festivals in Halifax. In exchange, I ended up with a gift certificate to CUT Steakhouse (my choice) for a staggering sum. Continue reading

Me and Bill Hardy

Me and Bill Hardy

Last weekend, I was invited to partake in a mystery meal…actually, let me start from the beginning. About a month ago, I received a save-the-date type email from a contact of mine at By the Glass. That’s it, just a date. When June 26th came around, I was filled with anticipation as to what the evening had in store … Continue reading

Have a gelato breakfast!

Have a gelato breakfast!

What began as an innocent trip to grab some brunch suddenly became a day of excess. While a friend and I decided to go to brunch and visit another friend and server at Ristorante aMano, we arrived just as said server was finishing her shift. Instead of dining without her, we decided to wait around and go somewhere where the three of us could eat instead. Continue reading

Strawberry Picking in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley

Strawberry Picking in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine and fellow blogger, Maria of The Right Coast Nova Scotia, took an adventure into the Annapolis Valley to take advantage of the lovely NS strawberries in season and have lunch at a local resto. Continue reading

Beef Short Rib with Potato Cannelloni and Microgreens

Beef Short Rib with Potato Cannelloni and Microgreens

A friend of mine was in town a little while ago and we managed to consume quite a bit of food! We went to Trader’s Bar for their $5 unlimited mussel deal, Ryan Duffy’s for an incredible steak dinner, and ended the weekend at Morris East. Continue reading

Nova Scotian Fish Cakes

Nova Scotian Fish Cakes

I always LOVE finding new spots to do breakfast on a weekday. I often work with the Delta Halifax staff in my position as an event planner, but I had never made it to the Crown Bistrot. That all changed last week when I met my contact for breakfast. I’m so used to reserving a good, hearty breakfast for brunch on the weekends, that I was slightly shocked to be able to experience it on a weekday!

Pipa restaurant in Halifax

Pipa restaurant in Halifax

I always find it interesting when a new restaurant opens here in Halifax. With the endless construction that went on on Argyle within the last year or so, we have seen several restaurants come and go, and much menu changing, aesthetic changing, etc. When I saw that the location that previously housed the Wooden Monkey was being opened as a Brazilian restaurant, I was filled with curiosity and excitement. After all, with all the various types of cuisine in the city, no one had yet to venture to this mysterious, spicy locale—until now. Continue reading

Clives' Kitchen Cam

A couple of weeks ago, I met a friend in the cheese section at Pete’s. We spent a while chatting and checking out the fare: a delightful cheese with Mexican spices and another with a hint of beer! When I mentioned that we should meet up for dinner soon, she provided me the ultimate answer: “Let’s do dinner now!” It’s sometimes frustrating that I plan to make plans with people, but often get sidetracked. This was the perfect opportunity to prevent such an occurrence, so I said “YES!” Continue reading
