Rebecca Garland is a recent transplant to Seattle, having lived her entire life in the South.  She is an attorney and in the spring of 2009, left her position with a Tennessee-based law firm and traveled throughout the U.K. and Europe for three months before settling down in the Pacific Northwest.

Rebecca is a freelance writer and contributing editor for lifestyle magazines and websites on various topics including travel, fashion and celebrity profiles.  When she isn’t exploring her new locale, Rebecca is on a constant quest for the next big adventure whether that be dancing on tabletops in St. Barts or shopping in her favorite outdoor market in Madrid.

While grabbing a coffee is a mere passing thought when visiting most cities – “just point me in the direction of the closest Starbucks” – visitors to Seattle should embrace the coffee culture.

Instead of looking at your morning coffee as a means to a caffeine-high end, pull up a chair and a cup of drip and spend a little time among the locals.  But where to go?  Ask Seattleites to name their favorite coffee shop, and you will get a different answer each time.  With more than 10,000 (yes, you read that right) coffee shops to choose from, though, there are more than a few standouts. Let’s face it:  Seattle doesn’t exactly have a reputation for style.  Birkenstocks, yes.  Louboutins, no.  So when I moved to the Emerald City last year, I knew the challenge wouldn’t be adjusting to the weather but adjusting to a more casual lifestyle.  After a little bit of research (and a few strange looks as I walked down the street in a dress and heels), I found that there is a glamorous side to Seattle—you just have to know where to look.
